A solid cast bronze kalathos in the classical manner, just over 3 kilograms and heavier than it looks. The kalathos was an offering vessel and a symbol of abundance in ancient Greece and Rome, and this one carries the tapered, flared form with figural scenes framed in Greek key borders, between bands of grapevines and floral rosettes. The patina runs from olive bronze to darker pooling in the recesses, and the relief is still crisp.
