Saint Haralambie, Sfântul Haralambie, „ajutător în boli și necazuri”, is the saint Romanians call on in sickness and hardship, and he rarely turns up in painted glass. Here he stands full figure at the centre, painted in egg tempera from behind in the old reverse technique, which leaves no room for correction, with the halo and ornament worked in genuine 24-karat gold. Smaller scenes and symbolic passages run around him in a bright folk hand that still keeps to Orthodox convention, a rare motif painted by a single hand and not repeated.
