Garuda, the eagle mount of Vishnu, carved mid flight by a Balinese hand in solid ebony, with the wings thrown wide and pierced through in open loops. The fine crosshatching runs over every feather, and the wood has darkened to a deep patina over the decades, with small age-related traces of wear. Only 16 cm, but it carries itself like a much larger piece.
