A rare and commanding cast bronze figure of Green Tara (Syamatara), the beloved female bodhisattva of compassion and swift protection, seated in the graceful posture of royal ease (lalitasana) upon a double lotus throne. Modelled in Tibet in the 18th to 19th century, this is an exceptional altar piece of considerable size and presence.
Her right hand lowers in varada mudra, the gesture of boon granting and generosity, while her left holds the stem of a lotus blossom at her heart. She is richly adorned with a foliate crown, beaded necklaces, armlets and pendant earrings, her serene downcast gaze and softly modelled features radiating meditative calm. The warm, naturally aged patina and crisp hand chased detailing across the jewellery, lotus base and ornate backrest reflect the hand of an accomplished Himalayan master.
Acquired at auction without documentation, this is a museum quality devotional sculpture for the serious collector of Buddhist and Himalayan art.
