A Balinese goddess mask in the topeng tradition, carved by hand, painted in polychrome and gilded. Her porcelain-white face sits under a crown of gilded flames worked through with deep red and charcoal, and the carving is confident throughout. The gilding shows honest wear from age, the sign of a mask that has actually hung and been handled.
