Easter Island Moai Collection, Set of 5 Hand-Carved Rapa Nui Wood Figures with Birdman

Five faces from the loneliest, most mysterious island on earth, all gathered on one mossy bank and looking very pleased about it. This is a handsome collection of five Rapa Nui figures carved from heavy exotic hardwood, headed by a commanding 58 cm black Moai with the long brooding profile, carved ear spirals and the classic ancestral stare. Beside him stand two warm honeyed Moai busts and a pair of smaller orange brown ancestors, each with that wonderful hand polished glow.
The showpiece of the group is the rare Tangata Manu, the Birdman, a roughly 50 cm figure crouched under his great curved beak, the legendary winner of Easter Island's sacred egg race. Several of the figures carry Rongorongo style pictographs across the back, the undeciphered script that supposedly keeps the island's old legends safe. Honestly carved in the traditional manner with a beautiful aged patina and only minimal, gentle wear, this is a set with real presence and very few moving parts to worry about.
Styling & Collectors Inspiration
Tribal and Oceanic art loves a little contrast, so let these ancestors hold court against clean plaster, raw oak or a dark moody wall where their silhouettes can do the talking. Group all five as an arrival statement on a long console or stagger them on floating shelves by height for a proper expedition cabinet feel.
Pair the Moai with our Antique Chinese Wood Carving with Gilded Motifs for a cross cultural conversation in carved timber, or set them alongside the Cast Iron Bust of a Greyhound to mix the primal with the patrician. For a calm, meditative corner, place them near the Zen Gemstone Fountain, and ground the whole tableau on our Vibrant Extra-Long Transylvanian Handwoven Wool Rug for warmth underfoot.
