Hand-Carved Chinese Hardwood Figure of an Elderly Sage Fisherman with Lantern and Staff

An old Chinese fisherman caught mid-stride, carved from a single piece of tropical hardwood. He has a bamboo staff over one shoulder, a woven creel lantern in the other hand, a long beard and his conical hat tipped back. The robes fall in crisp folds and the face is lively, not stiff, and he stands on a carved rock base. At 30 cm he has a lot of character for his size, and the deep chocolate patina has come from decades of handling.
