This is a commanding 75 cm Balinese carving of the monkey god, all bared fangs, bulging eyes and divine swagger, hand carved from wood and dressed head to toe in weathered polychrome. He strikes a hero's pose on a swirling lotus base, the sacred black and white poleng cloth wrapped at his hips, every curl of his crown and mane coaxed out by a patient carver's hand.
