Mystical Roses Still Life by Aurél Náray (1883–1959) – Large Antique Hungarian Floral Painting c.1920 in Ornate Gilt Frame

This striking large-scale antique floral painting by Hungarian artist Aurél Náray (1883–1959) captures a lush bouquet of roses emerging from a deep, atmospheric background. The composition radiates with a mysterious luminosity: soft pinks, creamy whites, warm yellows, and crimson reds seem to glow against a rich, almost Rembrandt-like darkness, creating a dramatic and captivating presence.

Náray was a member of the “Group of Spiritual Artists” and exhibited at the Nemzeti Szalon in Budapest in 1921 and 1924 before traveling to America, where he held several exhibitions. Today his works are held in the Hungarian National Gallery and various museum collections, confirming his lasting importance in Hungarian art history.

His paintings are often compared to those of Mihály Munkácsy, known for their emotional depth and luminous dark palettes. In this piece, the bouquet seems to vibrate with energy: petals unfolding in bursts of color that almost feel avant-garde against the mystical background.
