Rising on an elegant octagonal, waisted body that flares to a generous everted gadrooned rim, it was made for the grand hotels and dining rooms of early twentieth century England, where presentation mattered every bit as much as the vintage inside. One face carries a beautifully hand engraved armorial crest, a lion beneath a pelican crest wreathed in laurel, a quiet nod to a former owner with rather good taste. The silver plate has mellowed to a warm, characterful patina, the sort only decades of faithful service can bestow. Marked D.W.S.P and attributed to Thomas Wilkinson & Sons (Davenport), it is a genuine Sammlerstueck, equally happy chilling a bottle of fizz or standing proud as a sculptural vase.
