A bold and striking Balinese terracotta mask, hand-molded and vibrantly glazed in golden ochre with vivid tattoo-inspired facial markings. This expressive face, rendered in high-relief with exaggerated features and ritualistic symmetry, channels the theatrical energy of traditional Balinese Topeng (masked dance) performances.
The mask’s high-gloss surface contrasts beautifully with its jet-black tattoo lines, which extend from the brows to the chin in stylized spirals, glyphs, and center-line hatching. Accents in crimson, white, and violet highlight the eyes and lips, enhancing its surreal and trance-like quality. The pierced nostrils and almond-shaped eyes suggest that this piece may have been worn or used in ceremonial or decorative contexts.
