A triptych of carved panels after the temple reliefs of Khajuraho, that frank Chandela meeting of the sacred and the sensual, most likely made in mid to late 20th century ivory-toned stone composite rather than the 10th to 11th century original.
The busy central plaque holds a ceremonial scene between temple columns, and the two arched panels beside it are quieter, each with entwined figures and the jewellery and gestures picked out with care. It stands on a polished stone base and came to us from a European diplomat who collected across South Asia in the 1970s and 1980s.
