A glorious one-off charger that refuses to whisper. Painted by hand on a premium Hutschenreuther Selb porcelain blank, this large 34 cm plate bursts with a folk garden of cobalt tulips, scarlet carnations, sunbursts and emerald leaves, all orbiting a deep terracotta lattice medallion. Stalking between the blossoms are four wonderfully naive golden oxen, the sort of motif that nods to Balkan and Anatolian folk pottery while staying gloriously its own creature.
It is signed on the reverse "Marianne Bussjager, handgemalt", and carries the Hutschenreuther Selb factory marks, the happy marriage of a serious German porcelain house and an artist with a free hand and a fearless palette. Big, bold and beautifully glossy, it is the kind of piece that turns a quiet shelf into a conversation.
