A historically significant and beautifully preserved painting from the Dresden School, created in 1915 by the Hanau-born artist Richard Estler (1863–1928). This masterful work captures the banks of the River Main near Seligenstadt (Hesse, Germany), rendered with exceptional detail and tonal harmony characteristic of Estler’s mature period.
With meticulous brushwork and a delicate balance of light, Estler depicts the serene landscape as it appeared over a century ago. Prominent landmarks such as the Bollwerk Tower, Einhard Basilica, Monastery Gardens, and the twin towers of St. Marcellinus and St. Peter’s Church are faithfully represented (see pictures).
In 2023, the Museum Schloss Philippsruhe in Hanau celebrated the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth, reaffirming Estler’s significance within the German landscape tradition (see flyer).
