A seated Aztec figure keeps watch over the polished dish below, his stepped headdress and crossed arms picked out with confident chisel work, while the stone itself does the showing off, swirling through caramel, amber, sage and honey in those unmistakable onyx bands. Equal parts ashtray, trinket dish and conversation piece, it carries the warm patina that only decades of handling can give.
