Step into a frostbitten afternoon somewhere on the edge of old Nagybánya. This original oil, Winter im Park, was painted in 1933 by Csallóközi Farkas Lőrincz, an artist working firmly within the celebrated Baia Mare (Nagybánya) school, the colony that turned this corner of the Carpathians into one of Central Europe's great open-air painting traditions. Bare trees throw their delicate tracery against a cool silver sky, snow lies in soft impressionist dabs, and a handful of figures stroll the park as a turreted town slumbers behind them. It is intimate, atmospheric, and quietly alive with the particular light of a Transylvanian winter.
Worked in oil on artist's board (hard cardboard), the painting is signed and dated lower right, and the reverse still carries its original exhibition label, a lovely thread back to the moment it first hung on a gallery wall. It comes housed in a handsome gilt frame, ready to bring a breath of crisp mountain air to any room.
