Vintage Oil Painting, Poetic Carpathian Village Landscape, Signed Martin 1992, Gilt Frame

Some paintings simply hum with the warmth of a summer afternoon, and this one positively glows. An original oil study of a poetic mountain valley, it gathers a cluster of red-roofed cottages onto a sunlit green slope, with dark conifers standing guard and soft blue hills rolling away behind. The paint is laid on thick and confident, all buttery impasto and quick plein-air gusto, the sort of brushwork that makes you want to reach out and touch it (please don't, the insurers get twitchy). Signed lower right "Martin" and dated 1992, it carries the unmistakable air of the Carpathian and Eastern European plein-air school, where landscape painting was practised with real heart.
