Blue Cornflowers, N. Alexandrescu (1946) – Oil on Wood, Original Exhibition Stamp
A richly textured oil painting on wood by Romanian artist Nicola Jean Alexandrescu (b. 1884), signed and dated 1946 in the lower left corner. The work captures an atmospheric still life with a lush bouquet of vivid blue flowers, rendered with expressive, impasto brushwork and deep tonal richness.
This piece carries historical provenance, bearing the original stamp from the official Romanian “Salonul de Artă 1947” exhibition on the reverse—an important cultural event of the post-war era.
About the artist: Alexandrescu was a contemporary of Ștefan Luchian, having studied at the same prestigious École des Beaux-Arts. Known for his refined technique and contribution to Romanian modernism, Alexandrescu was also a Knight of the Masonic Order (“Cavaler al Ordinului Masonic”), a distinction that led to persecution under the Communist regime.
