Collection: Musical Instruments
After a performance, an admirer rushed up to Jascha Heifetz and gushed, "Oh, Mr. Heifetz, your violin made such a beautiful sound tonight!" Heifetz calmly picked up his violin case, held it up to his ear, and replied: "Funny, I don't hear anything."
P.S.: Still, it helps to have a good instrument.
This collection brings together bowed string instruments and their bows, chosen for players and collectors alike. Italian work leads, with antique violins from Florence, Milan and Vicenza alongside modern instruments from Cremona and Udine made in the 1980s and 2000s. Antique American violins, including New York work of around 1840, add another accent to the selection.
Bows make up a large share, with French, German and Italian violin bows, cello bows and Baroque-style swan-head models. Woods include spruce tops over maple backs, some flamed, as well as poplar and ebony, with gold mounts and horn frogs among the bows. Many bows come professionally set up, while some violins are offered as restoration projects, so each listing states its own condition.
