Cast Iron Bust of a Greyhound – English, Early to Mid-20th Century

Cast Iron Bust of a Greyhound – English, Early to Mid-20th Century

A finely modelled cast iron bust of a greyhound or whippet, English in origin, dating to the early-to-mid 20th century. The surface is finished in a deep blackened patina, catching the light subtly along the contours of the fur and musculature.

Mounted on a square plinth base, the piece has strong sculptural presence and a certain understated nobility—typical of the greyhound’s long association with aristocracy and sporting life. The form suggests it may have originally served as a decorative finial, desk ornament, or even a bookend, though it stands beautifully on its own as a sculptural object.

Origin: England
Date: Circa 1930s–1950s
Material: Cast iron with dark patina
Condition: Excellent vintage condition; no damage or repairs, light wear commensurate with age
Size sculpture: Approx. 22 cm (height) x 18.5 cm (width); Pedestal approx 7 cm x 9 cm

A fine decorative piece for those with an appreciation for the quiet grace of the greyhound.
