An Autumn Harvest Caught in Honeyed Glass

Meet a glorious sliver of Roaring Twenties glamour: a bernstein, amber pressed art glass bowl in a long, elegant boat form, its sides moulded with tumbling grapes, curling tendrils and vine leaves, all crowned by a chunky beaded rim that catches the light like spun honey. Hold it to a window and the glass glows like liquid caramel, warm enough to make October jealous.

Reclining inside is a hand-carved hardstone grape cluster: plump amethyst grapes the colour of mulled wine, set off by softly veined jade leaves and playful wire tendrils. It is the sort of decadent still life the 1920s and 30s did so very well, equal parts Bacchanalian fantasy and drawing-room elegance. The fruit lifts out, so you may show the bowl bare and sculptural, or piled high and gloriously theatrical. Either way, it has never once gone out of fashion.
