Some paintings simply ask you to take a deep breath. This one does exactly that. A Carpathian village settles into a broad green valley, timber cottages cluster beneath rolling wooded hills, and a sky of restless silver clouds drifts overhead. It is the kind of honest, sun-warmed Romanian countryside that painters have adored for generations, captured here with confident, buttery brushwork and a wonderfully alive sense of light.
Worked in oil on hard board and signed lower right “Harsia,” the painting carries the loose, plein-air vigour of a mid-twentieth-century Eastern European landscapist. The surface is a joy up close: thick, gestural strokes build the hayfields and treetops, while the distant ridge dissolves into soft blue haze. It comes handsomely presented in a gold-and-white moulded frame that frames the scene like a window onto another, gentler world.
Styling & Collectors Inspiration
A painting this atmospheric wants to anchor a wall, not whisper from it. Hang it where the morning light can catch the impasto and let its greens breathe.
- Build a Romanian heritage corner by pairing it with our Handwoven Transylvanian Folk Rug or the Extra-Long Transylvanian Handwoven Wool Rug for a layered, earthy textile dialogue.
- Curate a salon-style gallery wall alongside the masonic painter Nicola Alexandrescu’s Blue Cornflowers (1946) or the lyrical Steriadi Portrait of a Young Woman.
- For a softer, painterly grouping, set it beside the Oval Oil Painting of a Classical Nude in its golden frame.
