A spirited little brute frozen mid stride, this silvered metal wild boar lowers his head and bristles forward as though he has just caught your scent across the forest floor. Cast with real anatomical conviction, from the ridged spine and powerful shoulders to the blunt snout and pricked ears, he carries all the menace and charm of the great European animalier tradition. The cool silvered finish catches the light beautifully, while his rugged variegated marble base, all warm russets, creams and grey veining, grounds him with weight and quiet luxury.

Pieces like this belong to the golden age of cabinet bronzes and animalier figures, when hunting lodges, gentlemen's studies and Mittel European drawing rooms were furnished with bronzes and silvered metal beasts. We attribute this in the manner of the German and Austrian animalier workshops of the early to mid twentieth century. He is small enough to live on a desk, mantel or shelf, yet bold enough to start a conversation.

Styling & Collectors Inspiration

This little boar loves company that is equally sculptural and full of character. Set him beside our Cast Iron Bust of a Greyhound for a handsome menagerie of cast metal creatures on a study shelf. He echoes the silvered patina of our 1930s Art Deco Silvered Metal Vase, the two together making a cool toned, deco leaning vignette. For an earthier, tribal counterpoint, pair him with the Mid 20th Century Shona Stone Carvings, or build a full safari of beasts with our Vintage Leather Elephant and Rhinoceros Sculptures.
